How to bridge your Tezos tokens to Etherlink?

A bridge (or cross-chain bridge) is a technological protocol that allows the transfer of cryptoassets or data between two different blockchains. Blockchains like Ethereum, Solana, Avalanche, or BNB Smart Chain are generally incompatible with each other. This means that you cannot, for example, send a native Ethereum token (such as ETH) directly to Solana; because these blockchains work with different infrastructures, distinct smart contract languages, and cannot “communicate” natively with each other.

The bridge therefore serves as a gateway to connect two isolated blockchain ecosystems, and allow asset transfers, such as:

  • Tokens (e.g. ETH, USDC)
  • NFTs
  • Sometimes even smart contract calls (in the case of more complex bridges)

Why are bridges necessary?

The development of numerous blockchain networks has led to a fragmentation of the ecosystem. Each blockchain brings its own benefits, but this diversity has also created technological silos. A bridge therefore meets several concrete needs: A bridge allows users to navigate freely between several blockchains, as if it were a single network. This improves the overall experience in the Web3 universe.

Some networks like Ethereum can be expensive in terms of transaction fees (gas). Using a bridge allows you to transfer your funds to a faster and cheaper blockchain (such as Arbitrum, Polygon or BSC), and thus reduce costs. Some decentralized applications (DApps) only exist on a given blockchain. For example, a DeFi platform could be only on Avalanche. To participate, a user will need to transfer their funds from Ethereum to Avalanche via a bridge.

Many users are taking advantage of DeFi (decentralized finance) on multiple blockchains at the same time. Bridges therefore make it possible to circulate liquidity between these different environments. In a multi-chain future, users won't necessarily want to know what blockchain they're using. Bridges are a key component in making the boundaries between blockchains invisible and allowing consistent UX.

The LYZI token

Technically, the $LYZI token was initially launched on the blockchain Tezos, chosen for its safety, speed and low energy consumption. It follows the TZIP-12 (FA 2.0) standard, allowing interoperability with other blockchain systems. Now the token will be bridged to Etherlink in order to make it EVM compatible. The term “compatible EVM” on Etherlink means that this blockchain or solution is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM); the execution environment that allows Ethereum smart contracts to be deployed and executed.

To transfer your $LYZI tokens from Tezos to Etherlink, follow these steps:

  1. Connect your Tezos wallet:
  • Use a Tezos compatible wallet (e.g. Temple Wallet).
  • Make sure your $LYZI tokens are available in your wallet.

  1. Access the Lyzi bridge platform:
  • Go to https://bridge.lyzi.io/
  • Connect your Tezos wallet via the interface.
  • Connect your Etherlink wallet (example Metamask).

  1. Set up MetaMask for Etherlink:

Add the Etherlink network to MetaMask:

Either automatically from the bridge interface when you connect your 'Switch Network' metamask, or manually:

  • Add a custom network
  • Network name: Etherlink
  • RPC URL: https://node.mainnet.etherlink.com
  • Chain ID: 42793
  • Symbol: XTZ
  • Block explorer: https://explorer.etherlink.com/

  1. Start the transfer:
  • Enter the amount of $LYZI to be transferred.
  • MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TEZOS TO PAY THE TRANSACTION FEES.
  • Confirm the transaction in your Tezos wallet.
  • Wait for validation (about 20 seconds).

  1. Verify your tokens on Etherlink:
  • Once the transfer is validated, your $LYZI tokens will appear in your MetaMask wallet on the Etherlink network.
  • You can check your various transfers in the 'Transfers' tab on the bridge website.

Please note that the reverse path → Etherlink to Tezos is feasible, but this transfer will take a couple of weeks.

There is also a video version of this tutorial that you can find just hither.

It is also important to note that the wallet used to keep your tokens must be the same as the one used when paying via the Lyzi gate to take advantage of the benefits.

When you connect to the Lyzi payment gate, our system will recognize the token holders and assign rewards based on the number of tokens held.
